Congratulations to @mdigirunner on his first 100 mile finish at @keirahenningertrailruns Leona Divide 100 Mile!

Not without its ups and downs, things got tough early (mile 24) but Mike persevered at mile 47 when he almost pulled the plug. His crew and pacers were having none of that and kept him going.

Ultimately, Mike finished in 7th place in 25hrs 59min! Proof to never give up on yourself!

After a few bad ankle rolls over a few month period, I decided to lay off the trail running for a bit. So, I dipped my toes in the waters of marathon training and racing. Last week I ran The Jersey City Marathon, in beautiful Jersey City.

This was the 3rd marathon I have taken part in, but the first one I actually trained for, and the first I ran as hard as I could during the race to see how fast I could cover the 26.2 miles. Goal was just under 3hrs. I ran just over three hours, 3:01:24 to be exact. Big take away: marathon’ing, and road/track training can be fun. Not as fun as trails, but not as bad as I was expecting either. And, despite how slow I may look (and feel), I can run fast (kinda) with the right training. My time was good enough for a Boston Marathon qualifier, but that wasn’t even on my radar. Anyway, I guess I’ll have to do another one to get that coveted sub 3hr marathon.

Q. Was there something special that drew you to this race?

A. The difficulty and the beauty of running in the AZ desert drew me in. I've been following Cocodona 250 for a few years and knew that I wanted to be a part of it!

Q. What do you think will be the biggest challenge(s) for this particular event?

A. Coming from Oklahoma where it's hot and humid, I think the biggest challenge for me is going to be running in the exposed desert heat (dry) and adjusting to the climate.

Q. What do you hope to gain from the experience you are about to embark on?

A. I am looking forward to pushing myself to a new distance, adventure, and sharing the trails with some amazing people! My family and friends are coming to crew and I look forward to making some incredible memories!

Happy #medalmonday!

Had the chance to hop over to the Orange Park neighborhood on Saturday for the Run to the Sun 5k. The title was not deceptive — it felt like we were running directly into the sun. Ahhhh Florida.

Also got super close to two of the neighborhood guineafowls (see photo)

Anyway, not much to report other than this race went so much better than the 5k I “raced” two weeks ago. (Like 40 seconds better. I hate evening races.)

All 3.1 miles felt smooth, probably due to me not sprinting off the gun like I normally do. I just kept it easy, tried not to pass anyone in the first mile, and concentrated on keeping my effort level just below the red line of the pain cave.

After running three JAX races since we’ve moved here, I can confidently say that the running scene here is super well-organized and much larger and more involved than expected. Plus, most of the races use an app that automatically send results AND free photos seconds after you finish. As someone who doesn’t have a personal photographer that follows me around while I run (*side eyes most runfluencers*) I appreciate this extra touch.

Anyway, enjoy a double dose of photos from my last two races.

Next up: the Famous Idaho Potato 10k on May 18. (Not kidding.)
